Entertainment has many forms, and many of these forms are familiar to us. Music, drama, dance, storytelling, and other forms of performance have long held people’s attention. In royal courts, different forms of performance were common, but as time went on, they became more elaborate and accessible to all. The modern entertainment industry, however, records and distributes a variety of different types of entertainment products. This article will discuss some of the most popular forms of entertainment, as well as some of their evolution.
Visuals are an important part of movies, and the combination of imagery and sound completes the cinematic experience. Prior to the appearance of talkies in the 1920s, films were accompanied by musical scores composed by performers and played on a synchronized gramophone record system. Even before the advent of the talkies, music accompanied films and was sometimes sung by the performers. Similarly, the advent of video games has led to a rich history of visuals and audio, and entertainment has spanned all mediums.
Comedy music is an example of the combination of music and comedy. Its humorous nature creates a psychological or emotional response in listeners. Comedy music is based on musical codes that confirm or subvert the audience’s understanding of a scene’s symbolic meaning.
