Entertainment – What Is It?
Many forms of entertainment capture people’s attention, and most of them are common to all cultures. Stories, dance, music, and drama have been around for ages, and all cultures have their own styles. Performances started in the royal courts, but soon evolved into sophisticated forms. As they became more accessible to the public, the industry exploded, with music and movies spawning multiple formats and genres. Currently, entertainment is available to everyone, from small private performances to large-scale events geared towards global audiences.
Films are the most common form of entertainment, but some have more than one purpose. Documentary films, for example, combine both functions – to record events and educate the public. Film has been an international industry for centuries, since the Lumiere brothers sent cameramen around the world to record anything of public interest. The newsreels that came out of the First World War were born out of the need for mass entertainment during the war. While documentary films are primarily entertainment, they are also a means of social commentary.
Comedy films have also evolved over time. While the genre of comedy was already a relatively new form of entertainment, musical comedies have a longer history. Many of them are satirical, and often employ rhetorical techniques such as aposiopesis and musical devices to create comedic effect. Musical comedies tend to be more focused on the comic effect than character development. The genre is widely popular among younger audiences and older adults. And as they are often short in length, they are an excellent entertainment value.
When people are stressed out or stressed, entertainment is a great distraction. It releases endorphins, a hormone that helps alleviate pain and stress. Therefore, it’s not surprising that entertainment is so important. Aside from movies, there are numerous other types of entertainment, including hobbies and sports.
